Nephrology chief fellow, Hinds nursing instructor join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Swetha Rani Kanduri, M.B.B.S.

Dr. Swetha Rani Kanduri, recently nephrology chief fellow at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

Upon earning her M.B.B.S. in 2007 and completing an internship at Osmania Medical College, India, Kanduri served as a house officer/physician at the Sri Venkateshwara Nursing Home in India before having an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Montgomery from 2012-15. Then she started her nephrology fellowship at UMMC in 2015.

An associate member of the American College of Physicians, Kanduri is the author of a peer-reviewed article, “Personal Health Care of Internal Medicine Residents,” in the January 2012 issue of the Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives and has authored or coauthored 10 posters presented at professional meetings. She has given three scientific presentations internationally.

Debbie McGlaun, M.S., R.N.

Debbie McGlaun, a nursing instructor at Hinds Community College, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of health sciences.

After receiving her B.S.N. from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1979, McGlaun served as a staff nurse, charge nurse and/or nurse manager at a number of health care facilities throughout Mississippi and New Orleans before becoming clinical director of Hospice of Central Mississippi, Jackson, in 1990. She then served in managerial roles in home health and hospice agencies in the Houston, Texas areas and in Mississippi.

She first joined UMMC in 2001 as a staff nurse, then became nurse manager of the plastic surgery/wound reconstruction medical surgical unit and clinic before leaving in 2003 to become hospice director of Continue Care Home Health in Hollandale. She served as a nurse manager in the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Vitas Hospice in Houston, Texas, from 2004-05 before returning to Continue Care Home Health as hospice director in 2005. She returned to UMMC as a staff nurse in the medical surgery unit in 2007 and earned her M.S.N. at UMMC in 2010. She has served as a nursing faculty member at Hinds since 2014.

An active member of the Mississippi Nurses Association, McGlaun has served on numerous committees at Hinds and at UMMC.
